Indian politician Baba Siddique shot dead in Mumbai

Baba Siddique, a veteran Indian politician, was tragically shot dead in Mumbai on October 12, 2024. He was 66 years old when he passed away. The incident occurred in front of his son’s office, where three attackers fired at him around 9:30 pm.

Siddique had a long and distinguished career in politics, serving as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) in Maharashtra for three consecutive terms from 1999 to 2014. He also held various positions, including Minister of State for Food & Civil Supplies and Labour under Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh from 2004 to 2008.

Before his death, Siddique was the Chairperson and Senior Vice President of the Mumbai Regional Congress Committee and a member of the Parliamentary Board of the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee. Interestingly, he resigned from the Indian National Congress on February 8, 2024, and joined the Nationalist Congress Party led by Ajit Pawar just four days later.

The police have taken two individuals into custody in connection with Siddique’s murder, identified as Gurmail Baljit Singh from Haryana and Dharmaraj Rajesh Kashyap from Uttar Pradesh. A third suspect, Shiv Kumar from Uttar Pradesh, remains at large. There are also reports suggesting the involvement of Lawrence Bishnoi, a jailed gangster, in the assassination plot. Baba Siddique!
